Providing personal information

This pattern helps users provide personal information to complete a task.

How it works

If a player needs to provide personal information to complete a task, you should:

  • Use clear and consistent language
  • Be transparent about how what stage the user is on, if there are multiple steps to providing information
  • State what the information will be used for
  • Simplify the process of collecting information as much as possible

Use Cases

When to use

Use this pattern when it is absolutely necessary to collect information from users, and the task cannot be completed otherwise without substantially more effort. This pattern is good for scenarios such as signing up for an Encore Rewards account (when players may need to check their information regularly), or opting in for additional marketing communication.

When not to use

If a task can be completed without the need to provide information, do not ask for it.

Tips

If there is ever a need for a one-off transaction or exchange that users need to check the status of, use a reference number. Include the reference in an email or text message as they are hard to remember.
