This pattern helps users enter or select a date.

How it works

The reason a date is required will affect the way a user selects it.

  • For memorable dates, such as a date of birth, use a dropdown for the day, month, and year fields
  • For dates that occur in the past, near future, or when knowing the week of the month is necessary, use a calendar format

When to use

Follow this pattern whenever users are required to select a date, such as during age verification, requests for a report, and more.

Tips

Be consistent with date formats. If a date is being requested for a similar purpose on multiple pages, maintain the order for day, month, and year in all those pages.
